RDE300i may display Event Code 8, Event Code 9, or Event Code 2 following an internal communication error, resulting in an overall Status 2 error condition.

If these errors occur, please update to the latest RDE300i firmware and configuration manager software. See RDE300i Software Updates. Software released August 2024 should automatically recover from these errors.

If installing the latest software does not clear the error, use the immediate recovery procedure listed below to reset system operation.

Recovery Procedure:

  1. Shut down the PV string to which RDE300i is connected, by opening the string circuit at the string combiner box. (For standalone RDE300i units 810275-02, skip this step.)
  2. Disconnect the M+ and M- cables from the module connected to the RDE300i unit. (Do not disconnect the S- and S+ cables. Or, if these cables must be disconnected, be sure to mark all cables -- on both sides of the connectors -- prior to disconnection, to ensure that M and S cables are not incorrectly interchanged when reconnecting, which might damage the equipment.)
  3. Remove power from the RDE300i unit at its Main input. All power has now been removed and the unit will reset.
  4. Using the Configuration Kit 810276 (or equivalent), reconnect power to RDE300i at its Main input.
  5. Use the latest RDE300i Configuration Manager software to install the latest RDE300i Firmware. (See RDE300i Software Updates for the latest versions of both RDE300i Configuration Manager and RDE300i Firmware.) If the latest firmware was already installed, the software will ask for confirmation that you wish to install this same firmware again; answer yes.
  6. Once firmware update is successfully completed, check the System tab in RDE300i Configuration Manager. On the network map at the right side of the screen, your unit will be displayed. The status indicator should show a yellow circle and Event Code 100 will be displayed; this shows that no PV module is connected.
  7. Reconnect the M+ and M- cables. Check the System tab again. The status indicator should now show a green circle and status "OK". The error is now cleared.
  8. On RDE300i Configuration Manager, use the Outputs tab to check the module operation. Module Voltage should be near the Voc of the module. Module Current should be 0 because the string was disconnected.
  9. Reconnect the PV string at the combiner box, if it was disconnected in step 1.
  10. On RDE300i Configuration Manager, use the Outputs tab to confirm that Module Current and Voltage are as expected for the operating string and that the Output Current (i.e. the String Current) is as expected.
  11. Continue setup operations using the Configuration Kit, or, if setup is complete, remove the Configuration Kit and connect the Main port to your datalogger or SCADA network.

In a Leader/Follower system, the above procedure must be individually applied to each RDE300i unit that is showing the error condition.
